To meet the increasing needs of our clients, as well as our expanding client base, Andrus, Sceales, Starke & Sawall, LLP hires both entry level and experienced intellectual property attorneys.

Our firm's procedures and management structure are customized to accommodate the specialized needs of the practice of intellectual property law in a boutique firm. For example, the attorneys at Andrus, Sceales, Starke & Sawall, LLP generally have engineering or science degrees and are registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The firm expects professionalism and does not compromise quality of legal services provided to its clients for any reason.

As a virtue of our firm’s location in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, we are able to provide attorneys with an exciting and dynamic intellectual property practice, as well as the freedom to pursue a meaningful life away from the office. We are located in the heart of downtown Milwaukee just a few blocks from the Federal Courthouse, which is convenient for those attorneys practicing litigation. The metropolitan Milwaukee area is extremely livable and conducive to family life. Housing in Milwaukee is affordable, and the commute from the outlying suburban areas is short compared to other major cities.

We are proud to provide our clients with only the highest quality work product, and therefore we provide competitive compensation and benefits to our attorneys. Normally, associates are paid on salary for the first 3-½ years out of law school, and are then given the opportunity to be paid in accordance with an established, production-based monthly compensation program. Typical partnership track is three years from the date that the attorney has been compensated in accordance with the monthly production-based compensation program.

Entry Level Attorneys:

Entry level attorneys receive individualized training by working closely with experienced senior attorneys. It is part of our firm's culture for associates to work closely with senior attorneys in order to provide our clients with high quality service at a reasonable price. Entry level attorneys are normally exposed to patent and trademark prosecution, opinion writing and litigation. All entry level attorneys are expected to sit for the patent bar exam and become registered to practice in patent matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Our firm implements a summer associate program primarily for second year law students. It is hoped that the experience for the summer associates will be similar to that of full-time associates. Summer associates not only assist with legal research, but also typically gain significant hands-on experience by assisting senior attorneys in their day-to-day work. Summer associates are encouraged to work with all attorneys in our firm in order to gain a variety of perspectives on the practice of intellectual property law.

Lateral Hires:

If you are a bright, productive intellectual property attorney, and want to practice in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, please consider Andrus, Sceales, Starke & Sawall. In order to be considered, lateral hires need to be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and also need to be admitted to the State Bar of Wisconsin (or at least willing to sit for the Wisconsin State bar exam). Advanced engineering or science degrees, or work experience prior to law school is a plus, especially for relatively young attorneys.

Mid-level attorneys at Andrus, Sceales, Starke & Sawall are exposed to a wide variety of experiences and responsibilities depending on the stage of their professional development. Our firm not only has a prolific patent and trademark prosecution practice, but also is involved extensively in intellectual property litigation, as well as sophisticated international work. Qualified attorneys interested in any or all of these practice areas are encouraged to contact the firm. Andrus, Sceales, Starke & Sawall, LLP has paralegal assistants that specialize in both litigation and foreign prosecution.

Normally, associates are paid on salary for the first 3-½ years out of law school, and are then given the opportunity to be paid in accordance with an established, production-based monthly compensation program. Typical partnership track is three years from the date that the attorney has been compensated in accordance with the monthly production-based compensation program. For lateral hires, credit for previous employment is given on a case by case basis.
